Interview: 2008-06 - El Titan de Bronze

Interview with Willy from El Titan de Bronze

El Titan de Bronze
SC:How long has El Titan de Bronze been in business or been involved in the cigar industry?
ETdB:Our company was established in 1995.

SC:What are some other companies you have worked for or with?
ETdB:We manufacture the Avalon Cigars Miami line and manufacture cigars for Double Gun Cigars.

SC:What is the blend of the new Redemption cigars and how long did it take to perfect the blend?
ETdB:The blend for the Redemption line consists of Nicaragua binder and filler and the wrapper is an Ecuadorian Sun Grown Habano. We worked and tweaked this blend for 3 months before starting production.

SC:What are some of the future plans for your brand, anything on the horizon like a stronger, more mild or limited release cigar?
ETdB:I think that smokers are looking for a fuller bodied cigar. We are playing with some blends for a fuller bodied cigar.

SC:What is the current production level of the Redemption Cigar?
ETdB:Right now we have the personnel to produce 35,000 cigars a year

SC:What trend do you see developing in the cigar industry that you really don’t like?
ETdB:The trend that I see and frustrates me is the advertising buyer. The people that go and buy a cigar based on a rating. A lot of the times people and stores aren’t willing to try something new if they haven’t seen it in a magazine.

SC:What is your favorite brand of cigar outside of your own?
ETdB:I like Tatuaje’s , Padilla, Ashton VSG, San Cristobal.

SC:What is your favorite size of cigar?
ETdB:My favorite size is the Robusto size.

SC:With the limited production of the cigars, how many retailers do anticipate?
ETdB:I originally set 100 retailers, I would like 150 stores.

SC:What was the single biggest challenge in the creation of the cigar or brand?
ETdB:The biggest challenge is getting stores to carry a new brand without all the high end advertising behind you.

SC:Full cut, V-cut or punch?
ETdB:I prefer the full cut.

SC:How long have you guys been in Miami?
ETdB:We have always been in Miami.

SC:What significance does the name El Titan de Bronze hold for you or the company? Some would ask why use that name for a cigar company so please elaborate if you like.
ETdB:The name comes from a Cuban General called Antonio Maceo. He rose to General and would go to the front lines to battle. Because of this and his bronze skin color was give the name of Titan De Bronze.

SC:Can people come to the Miami location and buy fresh off the table cigars?
ETdB:Yes

SC:How many rollers do you have in Miami and what are the current production levels per day?
ETdB:We have 8 rollers and 1 master blender. Right now we produce 1000 cigars per day.
